May 1 has particular resonance this year, as workers around the world celebrate International Labor Day. Various unions and groups across New York State are hosting events. PEF members are encouraged to participate if you’re able. We will add to this list as we hear about additional activities:

ALBANY: Starting at 5 p.m. on Thursday, May 1, PEF Vice President Bruce Giddings will join fellow PEF members, a coalition of other labor unions, and community organizers from Indivisible and the #50501 movement outside Albany Medical Center at 43 New Scotland Road. The group will march to the Veterans’ Hospital at 113 Holland Ave., to demand that political leaders put families over fortunes, public schools over private profits, and healthcare over hedge funds. NEW YORK CITY: The NYC Central Labor Council is hosting a solidarity event in Foley Square (between Centre and Worth Streets) in downtown Manhattan at 5 p.m. on May 1. Workers and their communities are encouraged to gather and show that all workers regardless of race, gender, sexual orientation, or immigration status deserve to be heard and seen! RSVP here.

ROCHESTER: The Rochester Labor Council and the May Day Coalition are holding a march and rally beginning at 5 p.m. at Austin Steward Plaza, located on the west side of the Genesee River between the Andrews Street and Main Street bridges. The march will end at Parcel 5 at 6 p.m., where an Organization Fair and Celebration will be held. No RSVP required – just show up and be heard!
