ALBANY, N.Y., Jan. 22, 2025 — The Public Employees Federation (PEF) extends its deepest gratitude to Governor Kathy Hochul for her unwavering commitment to the Institute for Basic Research (IBR) and its dedicated workforce. The Governor’s proposed $75 million investment in the FY 2026 Executive Budget would transform the future of developmental disability services in New York State.
This substantial funding will enhance IBR’s capacity to deliver cutting-edge research and services to individuals, ensuring that New Yorkers receive the highest standard of care and support. Governor Hochul’s proactive approach stands in stark contrast to previous considerations of facility closures, exemplifying her administration’s dedication to strengthening essential public health infrastructure.
“Governor Hochul’s investment in IBR is a testament to her recognition of the critical work performed by our members and PEF will work with the Governor to secure this important proposal in the final budget agreement,” said PEF President Wayne Spence. “This funding not only secures the future of IBR but also reinforces the state’s commitment to advancing research and services for developmental disabilities. We are proud to have an administration that values and supports our mission.”
PEF remains steadfast in its advocacy for the resources and support necessary for members to continue their vital work. We look forward to ongoing collaboration with Governor Hochul’s administration to ensure that IBR remains at the forefront of research and services for developmental disabilities, benefiting countless individuals and families across New York State.
